The Centre is committed to helping visible minority youth rekindle their dreams, and achieve their full potential. We provide and implement professional innovative support services to individuals, communities, para-public and public organizations. We also develop and run health, education, socio-culture, and community economic development programs.<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n<tr>\r\n<td colspan=\"2\"><b>Position Overview<\/b>\r\n\r\n<b>Reporting to the Managing Director the Research Support Officer (RSO) will<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> be responsible for helping build BCRC\u2019s statistical knowledge and capacity. After attending a 1-week training program delivered by Statistics Canada, the (RSO) will work with a team of researchers on a project that seeks to capture the status and relative fitness of the English-Speaking Black Community (ESBC) in Quebec. They would work to create demographic profiles, infographics and analytical reports which will provide an evidence base for the organization to use in future endeavours. Additionally, they will learn about the community sector serving the English-speaking population of Quebec and may be asked to help with organizational activities over the summer.<\/span>\r\n\r\n\r\n<b>Duties and Responsibilities\u00a0<\/b>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Participate in a 1-week training program with Statistics Canada.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conduct surveys and collect data, using methods such as interviews, questionnaires, focus groups, consultations and, literature reviews.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Analyze data from surveys, old records, and\/or case studies, using statistical software programs.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prepare and present summaries and analyses of survey data, including tables, graphs, and fact sheets that describe survey techniques and results.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maintain accurate records of interviews, safeguarding the confidentiality of subjects, as necessary.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Offer research-based briefings and advice, which may involve writing action plans<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Contribute to research and policy reports, as well as internal documents. This includes working with others to develop conclusions and recommendations.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Develop and maintain relations with key stakeholders and interlocutors in order to build networks through which to learn and to share advocacy messages\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Manage project\u2019s social media account<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other duties as assigned<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n<tr>\r\n<td colspan=\"2\"><b>Qualifications<\/b>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Degree in a social-science-related discipline;<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Knowledge of study design, data management<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Knowledge of fundamental concepts of collecting and processing research data.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Excellent economic \/ statistical \/ quantitative \/ qualitative research skills<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ability to use quantitative and\/or qualitative data analysis software packages\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Proficiency in the preparation of publications, reports, presentations<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Experience in an applied social research environment\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Research skills including; document and literature reviews; supporting quantitative and qualitative data collection; data entry, coding and analysis; table\/graphics; proofreading; technical report writing<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and age<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Knowledge and experience in community development and\u00a0 intercultural engagement<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension)<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">French\u00a0 language skills would be considered an asset<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Can work with a team and support project activities as needed\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n<\/tbody>\r\n<\/table>\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eligibility<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CSJ criteria state that candidates must be between the ages of 15 and 30 years at the beginning of employment; must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or have refugee status in Canada; and must be legally entitled to work in Canada.\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BCRC welcomes diversity in the workplace and encourages applications from all qualified Canadian students, especially those from groups that have been historically marginalized, including, but not limited to: Indigenous peoples, members of visible minorities, members of the Queer community, and individuals with disabilities.
