Position Overview<\/b>\r\n\r\nReporting to the Managing Director the Research Support Officer (RSO) will<\/b> be responsible for helping build BCRC\u2019s statistical knowledge and capacity. After attending a 1-week training program delivered by Statistics Canada, the (RSO) will work with a team of researchers on a project that seeks to capture the status and relative fitness of the English-Speaking Black Community (ESBC) in Quebec. They would work to create demographic profiles, infographics and analytical reports which will provide an evidence base for the organization to use in future endeavours. Additionally, they will learn about the community sector serving the English-speaking population of Quebec and may be asked to help with organizational activities over the summer.<\/span>\r\n\r\n\r\nDuties and Responsibilities\u00a0<\/b>\r\n

  • Participate in a 1-week training program with Statistics Canada.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
  • Conduct surveys and collect data, using methods such as interviews, questionnaires, focus groups, consultations and, literature reviews.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
  • Analyze data from surveys, old records, and\/or case studies, using statistical software programs.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
  • Prepare and present summaries and analyses of survey data, including tables, graphs, and fact sheets that describe survey techniques and results.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
  • Maintain accurate records of interviews, safeguarding the confidentiality of subjects, as necessary.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
  • Offer research-based briefings and advice, which may involve writing action plans<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
  • Contribute to research and policy reports, as well as internal documents. This includes working with others to develop conclusions and recommendations.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
  • Develop and maintain relations with key stakeholders and interlocutors in order to build networks through which to learn and to share advocacy messages\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
  • Manage project\u2019s social media account<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
  • Other duties as assigned<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
Qualifications<\/b>\r\n
    \r\n \t
  • Degree in a social-science-related discipline;<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
  • Knowledge of study design, data management<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
  • Knowledge of fundamental concepts of collecting and processing research data.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
  • Excellent economic \/ statistical \/ quantitative \/ qualitative research skills<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
  • Ability to use quantitative and\/or qualitative data analysis software packages\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
  • (Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
  • Proficiency in the preparation of publications, reports, presentations<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
  • Experience in an applied social research environment\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
  • Research skills including; document and literature reviews; supporting quantitative and qualitative data collection; data entry, coding and analysis; table\/graphics; proofreading; technical report writing<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
  • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and age<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
  • Knowledge and experience in community development and\u00a0 intercultural engagement<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension)<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
  • French\u00a0 language skills would be considered an asset<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t
